Hidden within the temperate rainforests of northern Patagonia, the Cochamó Valley has become one of the world’s most unique destinations for remote multi-pitch and big wall granite climbing.
Massive granite walls rise directly from forested valleys, with climbing access involving movement through rivers, trails, upper valleys, and remote mountain terrain far removed from roads and modern infrastructure.
From accessible valley-based multi-pitch routes around La Junta to sustained big wall objectives deep within the upper valleys, Cochamó offers a rare combination of climbing, remoteness, and expedition atmosphere difficult to find elsewhere in the world.

While Cochamó is known globally for its massive granite walls and remote climbing atmosphere, the valley also offers world-class climbing across a wide range of grades and experience levels — from approachable multi-pitch granite routes around La Junta to sustained big wall objectives deep within the upper valleys.
For many climbers, the challenge is not simply the climbing itself, but the uncertainty surrounding larger objectives, unfamiliar terrain, expedition systems, and operating in a more remote environment.
Our expeditions are designed to bridge that gap.
Rather than focusing only on the final objective, we break larger goals down into manageable stages — building progression through route selection, valley movement, multi-pitch systems, camp life, and gradual exposure to the terrain itself.
For some, that may mean climbing classic granite routes around La Junta for the first time.
For others, it may mean progressing toward longer upper valley objectives and full big wall expeditions deeper within Cochamó.
The goal is not simply to complete routes, but to develop the confidence, systems, and experience required to move naturally through this type of climbing environment.
BTMA Founder and lead guide Nathan Lamacchia spent years living within the forests and valleys surrounding Cochamó — developing deep local relationships and extensive experience climbing, travelling, and moving through the region long before creating BTMA.
Rather than approaching Cochamó as a seasonal destination, our expeditions are built around genuine long-term connection to the valley itself — working closely with local climbers, arrieros, families, and the broader Cochamó community who continue to shape life within these mountains. This deeper understanding of the valley allows expeditions to move beyond simply guiding routes.
From understanding seasonal conditions and upper valley access to structuring realistic progression toward larger objectives, every expedition is shaped by real experience living and climbing within Cochamó over time. Whether climbing around La Junta, accessing upper valley walls, or progressing toward larger multi-pitch and big wall objectives, our focus remains the same: creating professional, progression-focused climbing expeditions built specifically around the realities of climbing in Cochamó.

Life in the Cochamó Valley follows a rhythm shaped by weather, climbing, movement through the terrain, and the climbing culture that has developed within the valley over decades.
Days begin beneath granite walls and forest canopy before moving between climbing sectors, upper valleys, rivers, and long granite routes throughout the region.
Evenings are spent back in camp, cabins, refugios, or beside the river sharing meals, route discussions, and preparation for the next day’s objectives.
The experience becomes as much about the atmosphere surrounding the climbing as the routes themselves.
All expeditions include private guiding, valley logistics, climbing support, route planning, and transfers from Puerto Varas.
Accommodation styles vary depending on the expedition format and objectives, combining valley camps, cabins, refugios, bivouacs, and upper valley camp systems throughout the trip.

The progression they built for me was flawless. By the time we reached high camp on Chopicalqui, I felt acclimatised, calm, and ready. It was less about conquering a mountain and more about entering the environment with respect and the right preparation.
